Background: Manufacturing plays a vital role in South Africa’s economy, contributing 12% to the GDP and driving employment growth (South African Reserve Bank, 2020). However, energy security challenges have emerged as a critical threat to the productivity of enterprises within this sector. This was the case for a manufacturing company located in the East of Johannesburg, which sought a reliable and sustainable energy solution to protect its operations from power disruptions. Determined to take control of their energy needs, the company explored renewable energy options. After attending a Solis product training session, Spectronix, the appointed installer, confidently selected the Solis solution for the manufacturing company. "We were considering various options, but after the 50kW Solis inverter training, it became clear that this was the best fit for the project," stated Spectronix. Project overview: Spectronix explained: "This installation marked the first time we used 4 pieces of 50kW Solis Hybrid Inverters in parallel, configured as a grid-tied system. The installation process was seamless, with excellent support from Solis South Africa." The system includes a 200kW grid-tied solution powered by four 50kW Solis Hybrid Inverters, paired with a 133kW solar panel array. Although some challenges arose due to the scale of the installation, Solis’ superior technical support ensured timely resolution. "We received comprehensive virtual support (this includes firmware updates) from Walter Ndhlovu during commissioning, and Solis conducted a site inspection just two weeks after installation," Spectronix added. Benefits: Since the installation, the company has achieved a remarkable 45% reduction in energy consumption. Additionally, the system is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 3.71 tonnes annually. This project is a testament to how the right energy solutions can transform communities and businesses alike. Solis is proud to be part of the journey towards a more sustainable future.
